About the book:

American astronomer, mathematician, surveyor, and inventor David Rittenhouse was a key figure in colonial Pennsylvania. A native of Montgomery County, Rittenhouse was essentially self taught and got his start by age 19 making clocks. He taught his youngest brother, Benjamin, the clockmaking trade and oversaw his apprenticeship. Rittenhouse went on to make many highly-prized and innovative mathematical and astronomical instruments.

This book showcases the range and scope of both his skill and impact on art and science in colonial America. Historic Trappe is fortunate to own a clock made by Benjamin Rittenhouse, which is featured in the book and on display in the dining room of the Muhlenberg House.
